A neighbor had read a passage in the Book of Revelation (Chapter 21) that talked about the 12 gemstones that decorated the walls of Jerusalem. It also says that the gates are made of pearls and the streets are gold. She asked if I could make a bracelet out of these 12 stones. It took quite a bit of hunting to find the actual stones. I found some at Auntie's, on eBay, when I visited Sedona this winter, and at a local bead store that sells gemstones. She wears her bracelet at work every day, and I have received orders for 7 more. I use only freshwater pearls, gold-filled components, and Swarovski crystals between the stones. I hope you like this Revelation Bracelet!

What a great idea. And, I love Sedona so glad to hear you found your remaining gems there. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Bev. I love your bracelet. I hate to sound totally ignorant but I have never heard of a Kumihimo bracelet & I subscribe to a lot of magazines. Is it called something else? I would love to have the directions (if you don't mind sharing) ,OR maybe you can tell me where to find the directions. Your colors are stunning.

I found a great focal bead at my local bead store. It had streaks of black, peridot and silver. Since I love to make Kumihimo bracelets I combined black 8/0 seed beads with one strand of peridot seed beads. That makes a nice round bracelet with specks of the peridot seed beads. I really like the way the Kumihimo bracelet section sets off the focal bead. It is finished with silver crimp ends and a toggle clasp.

My girlfriend had a very heavy 7 strand twisted pearl necklace that her mother had given her about 20 years ago. She said she couldn't wear it because it was too bulky and heavy and she asked me if I could do something with it and make her something delicate and wearable. Because it had a gorgeous 14kt. gold cone clasp I didn't want to completely destroy it so I removed 4 strands, tightened up the twist, and was able to maintain the original necklace for her. With the remaining 4 strands I decided to go delicate with a bit of dressy, so with a VERY small needle, beading thread, and silver lined crystal delicas I created a necklace, bracelet and earrings for her. When I gave it to her, she cried.....the best part of jewelry design is making someone happy :)

Oh, wow, beautiful pieces and those colors.
My favorite piece is this one. It's a finalist in a beading contest, so I just redid it. I live in a tiny town of 200 people and we have lots of wooded areas. A creek runs by and I take my dogs out there so they can swim and run. I bring a sketch book and a pencil in case I get inspired. Well, we have tons of butterflies (which i loooove) and dragonflies there. I sat down on a blanket and all over sudden I was surrounded by them. I wanted to capture the beauty and have the feeling of being surrounded by butterflies after leaving my peaceful spot. So I started drawing and that's what I came up with.

A Jewelry Holiday Piece for Adults or Children

If you are looking for a beaded craft idea that is so easy and quick even kids can join in the fun, then don't forget about good old pony beads and pipe cleaners. It is amazing what you can make with these simply and inexpensive supplies. For example, my So-Easy Bead and Wire Wreath combines these supplies into a wreath ornament that you can make in just a few minutes.

Buy a big bag of pony beads and a stack of pipe cleaners and go crazy with these little wreath. They are great for decorating your tree or holiday gift, or they work well a la carte to give as small gifts to co-workers and friends.

Beaded Ornament Cover Bulb Size?

I had an email from a reader the other day asking what size bulbs should be used for the ornament cover projects on this site. I measured around one bulb, and it was about 8 inches. So I would say that anywhere from a standard 4 inch diameter bulb to a smaller 3 inch diameter bulb will work for most beaded ornament covers.

Both my projects, the Beaded Ornament Cover and the Flower Petal Ornament Cover, are placed on top of a glass bulb, so they don't have to fit under the bulb, just on top. They aren't as ornate as some beaded covers I've seen, but both work up very fast, so even if you don't have a lot of time, they make great gifts. Also, you can simply change out the beads to make each look a little different.

Frosty the Snowman Pin

Even if you are short on both time and funds, you can make a number of simple jewelry projects to wear yourself or give away as a little "something" to friends and family this holiday season. For example, this Frosty the Snowman Pin requires just a little glitter, glue, and a pin back. He's really cute and I think he's not necessarily just a feminine-style pin so even guys who want to get into the Christmas spirit may enjoy attaching him to their coat lapel.

All materials for this pin I purchased at my local craft store, and I'd say the supplies were easily less than $5, including glue and glitter, which I have enough left over of both, allowing me to make more Frosty pins!
