"The Year of the Tiger 2010"

Some of my friends are Chinese Canadian and they're getting ready to celebrate "The year of the Tiger."
So if you're born in the year 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998 then you should be celebrating too.

You're sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. you can be extremely short-tempered, however. Other people have great respect for you, but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. sometimes Tiger people cannot make up t… Continue

Winter is Here, so go simple!

Coco Chanel said it best “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” I have notice that we have forgotten the simple things, even in fashion.
So what we beader's and designers need to do is look around and go back to the basic of things. I have been reading in all the magazines lately that "big and bold is back". Well if you are like me, my friends and you live in a cold climate co… Continue

Carpel Tunnel and Jewelry Designing

Because I make jewelry, type a lot at the computer, and also dabble in other crafts such as crochet, I've always had hand issues. Many years ago while working as a waitress, it got so bad that my hands would lose all feeling and I would drop things, like a hot pot of coffee! Luckily, it eased off after I stopped doing that kind of work, but it's never really gotten totally better, and occasionally it flairs up when I have spent a lot of time at the jewelry bench.

I know I am not alone when it comes to crafting and hand problems, most notably Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, so I decided to do some research right here at About.com and see what kind of help I could get and pass on to other jewelry designers:

On the Orthopedics site I found a good article and diagram that discusses exactly what the heck Carpel Tunnel Syndrome is and what causes it.

I found an article entitled Exercises to Prevent and Ease the Pain of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome on the Physical Therapy site.

For those looking for a more holistic approach, I found some natural treatments discussed on the Alternative Medicine site, and on the Yoga site I discovered that there are actually some poses you can do aimed at reducing the pain.

The list really goes on and on, but here are a few more articles I found of interest:

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Hypothyroidism
